hi everyone,

did you know there are a lot of settings you can change around for the forum? maybe everyone has already found this out. but! you can do stuff like change the colors, receive email notifications of recent posts .. etc. i changed mine so that recent posts are at the top instead of all the way at the bottom of each topic, so i wouldn't have to keep scrolling down each time. anyway .. just wanted to share with everyone Smiley hope you're having a good summer!

The current plan is to make the entire half of the bookstore into a convertable space - so during business hours, it is open to the public and set up for retail with a few nooks and crannies for couches, and during evening hours, the displays lock up, and some shelves have wheels on them so they can get moved around, and the entire space is card access as a lounge / programmable space with a retractable screen for projecting movies.

Also, Ginnie Dunleavy from Retail and Dining is shifting the language from a "student space" to a more inclusive "community space". The intentions of the space are somewhere between Ginnie's perspective with retail and the students' perspective with having a lounge to interact with one another.

The student space committee is going to have regular meetings on Tuesdays at 10AM with the architects (Ed Wojcik Architect) and Ginnie in the office next to the Watermark Cafe. Charlie Thornton and Liz McCormick have been actively involved throughout. There will be some others getting involved hopefully, and additional student attendance / input is more than welcome.

How'd that meeting go? I had class all day today.

i went, and so did mike. it was the two of us and three people from the visiting committee .. it was pretty relaxed, they were doing an evaluation of the technology situation on campus in general (not just oit specifically). they were really nice, and were mostly just asking about the role technology plays in our lives here at risd, from our application process to student life to classroom situations. it's too bad no one else went because i don't feel very representative of the whole student body's technology use.

when they're done with the evaluation process, they're going to send a report back to the school. does anyone know if we will have access to these results?

If you know any students at Brown, you could start by asking them.

Here's a list of the HELIN Libraries which support a studio, art history or architecture degree:
Brown University (BA Art, History of Art & Architecture, MA, PhD)
Providence College (BA Studio Art, Art History)
Rhode Island College (BFA)
Roger Williams University (BS Architecture, M.Arch)
University of Rhode Island (BA Art, Art History, BFA)
Wheaton College (BA Studio Art,  Art History)

Actually, it's just that the blog address is http://osl.risd.edu/undergrad/ not http://osl.risd.edu/undergrad/blog/ . Since it is a relative link it get's confused.

Hey, if you're viewing the alliance page from http://osl.risd.edu/undergrad/blog/ and click on the forum button it will try to take you to http://osl.risd.edu/undergrad/blog/forum/ which is a dead link (should be without the "blog").

Interesting article from a few years ago about the "Chace Student Center"- it also has some old renderings of the building.

Unfortunately I am pretty sure I will not be able to attend the luncheon because I have work but I really look forward to hearing about it.
